About USD/HKD
What moves it
- The US dollar side (Federal Reserve)
- Federal Reserve rate expectations, US inflation and jobs data, and global risk appetite — in stress the dollar is usually bought.
- The Hong Kong dollar side (Hong Kong Monetary Authority)
- The link keeps it in a narrow range; interbank rates and capital flows decide where in the band it trades.

Trading notes
- The Hong Kong dollar is linked to the US dollar within a 7.75–7.85 band. Pegged rates can stay almost flat for years, so trading costs (spread and overnight swap) can outweigh price moves — and a peg change, though rare, causes sudden gaps.
- In risk-off periods money tends to flow into the US dollar, so USD/HKD often reacts to stock-market sell-offs.
- Exotic pairs usually have wider spreads, larger overnight swaps and sharper gaps around news than the majors. Size positions accordingly.
