  1. Lesson 1Why financial promotion is regulated
Why promotion is regulated, and whose rules applyLeft: why promotion is regulated. In an illustrative 2,000-dollar account, a 100,000-dollar position needs 1,000 dollars of margin at 1:100. A 1% move against it loses 1,000 dollars: 1,000 left and 1,000 lost, half the account in one move. Most retail CFD accounts lose money, hence the rules. Right: whose rules apply. The rules where you are based and the rules where your audience lives can both apply. Whether you need a licence or authorisation depends on the jurisdiction, and your broker's IB rules apply on top. Check with the regulator for you and your audience.WHY: LEVERAGE RISKExample: 2,000 USD accountPosition100,000 USDMargin at 1:1001,000 USD1% move against−1,000 USD1,000 left1,000 lost1% move = −50%of the account, in one moveMost retail CFD accountslose money: hence the rules.WHOSE RULES APPLYYOUwhere youare basedAUDIENCEwhere theyliveBoth rulebooks can applyLicence or authorisation?Depends on the jurisdiction.+ your broker’s IB rulesCheck with the regulatorfor you and your audience

Leverage can turn a 1% move into half an account, which is why promotion is regulated. The rules where you are and where your audience lives can both apply.

  2. Lesson 2Writing compliant content
Anatomy of a compliant postA mock social post with four numbered features. 1, a prominent risk warning at the top: high risk, most retail accounts lose money. 2, a balanced claim: leverage magnifies losses as well as gains. 3, an IB disclosure next to the sign-up link: I'm an IB and the broker pays me when you trade. 4, complete results for all 10 trades in the month: plus 600 minus 1,050 equals minus 450 dollars. Illustrative: posting only the 3 winning trades would hide that 450-dollar loss.ANATOMY OF A COMPLIANT POSTHigh risk: most retailaccounts lose money.Leverage magnifies lossesas well as gains.I’m an IB and the brokerpays me when you trade.Sign up via my linkAll 10 trades this month:+600 − 1,050 = −450 USD1Risk warningplain, prominent, early2Balanced claimrisk beside each benefit3IB disclosurenext to the link4Complete resultslosses includedIllustrative: posting only the 3 wins hides a 450 USD loss.

A compliant post puts a plain risk warning first, balances benefits with risks, discloses that the broker pays you, and shows complete results or none.

  3. Lesson 3Red lines and a pre-publish checklist
Six red lines and the pre-publish checklistLeft: six red lines an IB must never cross: no income promises, no fake results or reviews, no targeting the vulnerable, no unregulated brokers, no handling client money or logins, and no personal advice unless authorised. Any 'no' or 'not sure' on the checklist means fix it before you publish. Right: a draft reel run through the 10-point pre-publish checklist. Checks 1, 2, 4 and 5 fail: no risk warning, no IB disclosure, an implied promise of future profit, and only 3 winning trades shown. 4 of 10 checks fail, so it must not be published.SIX RED LINESNo income promisesNo fake results or reviewsNo targeting the vulnerableNo unregulated brokersNo client money or loginsNo unauthorised adviceAny “no” or “not sure”?Fix it before you publish.CHECKING A DRAFT REEL10 checks before publishing123456789101No risk warning2No IB disclosure4Implies future profit5Only 3 winners shown4 of 10 failDo not publish

Some lines are never crossed. Run every post through the 10-point checklist: a single “no” or “not sure” means fix it before it goes out.
